For Wine Enthusiasts
8/28/2009
For our riders who have travelled to Portugal this will come as no surprise – Portuguese wines are superb!
The wines carry true “terroir” you can taste the different varieties from the North to the South. But the north is where Portuguese wines stack the largest international acclaim – in particular the beautiful Douro valley; a wine region so unique and precious that the entire valley is UNESCO World Heritage.
Producing Port wine and table wines since the dawn of time and the first demarcated region in the world the Douro is a true blue blood of the wine world and has been of late gaining subtle recognition beyond the aficionado wine connoisseur. Which is why we’re proud to pass on the news that the Douro’s Quinta do Crasto (visited on our Dipping in the Douro) Reserva Old Vine 2005 is ranked 3rd in the Wine Spectator's TOP 100 (2008) and amongst many other “best of” lists.
Naturally the best is to come to the Douro and taste these wines in the heart of the valley. By far one of the most noble, unique and stunning wine regions in the world and as always these places are best enjoyed from the seat of a bicycle.
To make visiting such an exclusive wine valley even more unique, is going with a company like CTTC that is locally owned and operated - and acquainted personally with many of the top wine producers and oenologists in the Douro.
